Fuchs' Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy

Differential diagnosis

  • Pseudophakic or aphakic bullous keratopathy
  • Posterior Polymorphous Dystrophy
  • Cornea guttata
  • Corneal hydrops
  • Contact lens over wear

Possible management by Optometrist

Treatment

  • For persistent oedema consider Sodium chloride 5% in the morning and as necessary during the day
  • Therapeutic contact lens for pain

Advice

  • Warm air blown on the eyes with a hair dryer in the mornings may help
  • Cataract surgery may precipitate corneal oedema
