Differential Diagnosis
- Choroidal naevus
- Congenital hypertrophy of retinal pigment epithelium (CHRPE)
- Subretinal or suprachoroidal haemorrhage
- Choroidal haemangioma
- Prominent vortex vein ampulla
Possible management by Optometrist
Treatment
- None
Advice
- Refer pigmented choroidal lesions to ophthalmology if
- margin within 3mm of the optic disc
- raised
- presence of overlying orange pigment lipofuscin
- sub-retinal fluid
- sub-retinal haemorrhage
Management Category
- Urgent referral to ophthalmology
- vWhenever possible include an image of the lesion centred in the middle of the image

- Referral to tertiary centre for opinion
