Differential diagnosis

• Giant Cell Arteritis
• Amaurosis fugax
• Purtscher’s retinopathy

Possible management by Optometrist

Treatment

• Aspirin 300mg daily for 14 days

Advice

• Need to exclude giant cell arteritis and atrial fibrillation urgently
• Depending on location, may be quicker to contact GP initially, before attending ophthalmology
• Urgent referral to ophthalmology
