Differential diagnosis
- Giant Cell Arteritis
- Amaurosis fugax
- Purtscher’s retinopathy
Possible management by Optometrist
Treatment
- Aspirin 300mg daily for 14 days
Advice
- Need to exclude giant cell arteritis and atrial fibrillation urgently
- Depending on location, may be quicker to contact GP initially, before attending ophthalmology
- Urgent referral to ophthalmology
